Jared Decker, Outstanding Young Extension Specialist Award

Jared Decker is an assistant professor in the Division of Animal Sciences and Beef Genetics Extension Specialist. Decker received his B.S. from New Mexico State University, where he majored in Animal Science graduating with Highest Honors. Jared earned his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri in Genetics, with a minor in Statistics. Jared assists stakeholders in the beef industry in understanding rapidly changing genetic technologies. Jared is a trailblazer in the use of social media in extension programming and his blog "A Steak in Genomics" receives approximately 1000 pageviews each month. He is an active member of eBEEF.org, an eXtension Community of Practice. Jared helps beef producers trust and utilize genomic predictions, and has implemented a genomic testing designation in the Missouri Show-Me-Select Replacement Heifer Program. In addition to presentations across Missouri,Jared is an invited speaker in numerous other states and for many of the national breed associations.
