Jean-Francois Hocquette, Meats Research Award

Dr. Jean-Francois Hocquette, PhD, DSc, Sr Scientist, INRAE, is an international expert and highly sought-after speaker on research (muscle biology, genomics) and social interest (e.g. in vitro meat) topics. His scientific pursuits have resulted in 240 papers (12K citations, h-index: 58), two patents, $8M in grants, mentorship (31 scholars), 80 lectures worldwide, a TEDx talk and >300 media interviews. Dr. Hocquette twice organized the French Meat R&D Congress and will organize in 2023 the joint WAAP-EAAP congress. He provided leadership to seven programs on meat, was director of the Herbivore Research Unit (172 staff, 2006-10), and worked for the High Council for Evaluation of Research & Higher Education. Dr. Hocquette contributed to the launch of a new brand of premium beef. He is an editor of the French industry’s Meat R&D journal, and of four books. He is also president of the French Society of Animal Science and of the EAAP Cattle Commission. He earned honors from the French Meat Academy (2010) and ASAS (2014).
