Kyle R. McLeod, Animal Growth and Development Award

Kyle R. McLeod is a recognized authority in ruminant growth and development. He is a native of rural West Texas and completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees at Texas Tech University before obtaining his Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky. He began and established his early career as a Research Scientist and Leader of the Large Animal Energy Metabolism Unit at the USDA Agricultural Research Center located in Beltsville, Maryland. Dr. McLeod returned to the University of Kentucky where he now serves on the faculty of the Department of Animal and Food Sciences. Dr. McLeod has focused on the complex relationship between luminal nutrient supply and the conversion of substrates into tissue in growing cattle. He has published 72 peer-reviewed papers and more than 150 abstracts and research reports. He has generated over $4.2 million in extramural funding and has given 17 national or international presentations. Dr. Kyle McLeod is an outstanding scientist who has used a unique blend of creativity and cutting-edge skills to answer questions that impact the efficiency of growing cattle.
