Stephen Smith, ASAS Fellow: Research Category

Dr. Smith obtained a B.S. degree from California State College, Bakersfield, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Smith began his professional career at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in 1979 and joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1983.
Dr. Smith has collaborated with scientists in the U.S., Japan, Australia, South Korea, and China to document the regulation of the deposition and composition of bovine adipose tissue.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Meat Science Association, the American Society of Animal Science, and the American Society for Nutrition. He served as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Animal Science and received the Young Animal Scientist Award, Animal Growth and Development Award, and Award in Meats Research from the American Society of Animal Science as well as the Regents Professor and Faculty Fellow Award from Texas A&M University.
Dr. Smith and his wife, Dana, have a daughter, Ellen, and two sons, Ethan and Evan.
