Dr. Merlyn K. Nielsen is the Kermit Wagner Professor of Animal Science at the University of Nebraska, where he specializes in quantitative genetics. For more than 40 years, he has been a dedicated teacher, advisor, and mentor to his students as well as a prolific researcher and a valued colleague who demonstrates exemplary leadership and an unyielding commitment to his profession. His lifetime contributions to the animal science field, livestock industry, ASAS and other organizations, and the University of Nebraska community, including its undergraduate and graduate students, are remarkable. He is particularly skilled at building a cohesive classroom environment and fostering strong relationships with his students, which is critical to supporting their intellectual growth and cultivating the next generation of animal scientists.
