James Reecy, Animal Growth and Development Award

This year’s recipient of the ASAS Animal Growth and Development Award is Dr. James Reecy. Dr. Reecy’s research program has utilized molecular biology, genetic and bioinformatic approaches to obtain knowledge, which will enable livestock producers and associated industries to produce healthy, high quality livestock products, with a primary emphasis on beef cattle. His animal growth and development research has focused on 1) elucidation of molecular pathways that control skeletal muscle growth, 2) nutrient content of beef and milk, and 3) the development of computational resources and minimal standards to facilitate livestock research. He serves as the NRSP-8 Bioinformatics coordinator. During his career, he has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscript and has been PI or Co-PI on competitive grants worth more than $14 million. Dr. Reecy is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University.
