James Reecy, The Rockefeller Prentice Memorial Award in Animal Breeding and Genetics

This year’s recipient of the ASAS Rockefeller Prentice Memorial Award in Animal Breeding and Genetics is Dr. James Reecy. Dr. Reecy’s research program has obtained knowledge that will enable livestock producers and associated industries to produce healthy, high quality livestock products, with a primary emphasis on beef cattle. His animal breeding and genetics research has focused on 1) the quantitative and molecular genetic evaluation of nutrient composition of beef and milk, and disease resistance of beef cattle, 2) genetic resistance to PRRS in swine, 3) the development of computational resources and minimal standards to facilitate genomics research, and 4) analysis of livestock genomes. He serves as the NRSP-8 Bioinformatics coordinator. During his career, he has authored or co-authored 102 peer-reviewed manuscript and has been PI or Co-PI on competitive grants worth more than $14 million. Dr. Reecy is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University.
