Alison L. Van Eenennaam, Extension Award

Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam is an Animal Genomics and Biotechnology Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Department of Animal Science at the University of California, Davis. She received a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from the University of Melbourne, and an MS and PhD from UC Davis. The mission of her Extension program is “to provide research and education on the use of animal genomics and biotechnology in livestock production systems”. She works with a variety of stakeholder groups and issues and strives to combine original research with the generation of extension materials on topics ranging from genomic selection to genetic engineering. She has an international reputation on issues relating to animal biotechnology and often provides a credentialed voice on some very controversial topics. She is also interested in public education and uses innovative communication approaches to inform audiences about science and technology. She and her husband Joel have two sons, Kyle and Alec.
