Darrell Johnson, ASAS Fellow: Industry Category

Dr. Darrell Johnson grew up in Missouri. He was educated at Southwest Missouri State and the University of Kentucky, earning his Ph.D. there in 1982. From 1983 to 1988 he served as an Extension Livestock Specialist at Mississippi State University. In 1989 he was hired by Burkmann Feeds, a feed company in Danville, KY, as technical specialist in livestock feeds. He helped grow Burkmann Feeds from a small business of two manufacturing plants and three retail locations to eleven manufacturing plants and fourteen retail stores. In 2007 he became Technical Service Director for Burkmann Feeds where he led the company in new product development, quality control, regulatory compliance, formulations, employee training and direction. In 2012, he was named Director of Regulatory Services at the University of Kentucky. He oversees feed, fertilizer, seed and milk regulations in the state. He and his wife, Beth, and children, Justin and Jessica, operate a registered Gelbvieh farm.</p>
