This week's Image of the Week shows a simple feeding system for ammoniated small grain chaff.
A description in the Animal Science Image Gallery, by Dr. Greg Lardy, North Dakota State University, reads: This image shows a simple feeding system for ammoniated small grain chaff. This system was developed by a rancher in southeastern Saskatchewan. The chaff is transported to a central location, water is added, and the chaff is ammoniated with the addition of anhydrous ammonia. Once ammoniated, a simple electric fence is erected around the chaff pile. The fence is powered with a solar charger (pictured) and the cattle consume the chaff by eating from the pile under the electric fence.
